In our family, we love spicy, flavorful full foods. This recipe for Jamaican Grilled Chicken Wings is slightly spicy and full of wonderful flavors that will have you thinking you’re sitting on a sunlit, sandy beach in no time. This is a perfect for a Memorial Day cookout and throughout the summer grilling season.
These Jamaican Grilled Chicken Wings taste best when allowed to marinade for at least two hours. However, they’ll be even more delicious if you allow them to marinade overnight. The purpose of marinading is to add flavor to the meat and to help tenderize the meat. I like to use Kikkoman® Less Sodium Soy Sauce because it allows me to reduce the sodium level without sacrificing flavor. I absolutely love chicken wings. They’re easy to prepare and a fun change from typical foods served at cookouts. Whether you enjoy flats or drums, this Jamaican Grilled Chicken Wings recipe will change your summer cookout menu for the better!
After making this recipe several times, I can tell you it’s much easier to grill chicken wing pieces on a fish plate. Because of the small size of the chicken wing pieces, they’re more prone to falling through the grates. You can find a fish plate with the other grilling accessories in the outdoor section of your local Walmart while you’re picking up the Kikkoman® Less Sodium Soy Sauce and other ingredients for your Jamaican Grilled Chicken Wings recipe.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup Vegetable Oil (avoid using Olive Oil which tends to flare up when used on the grill)
- 1/3 cup Kikkoman® Less Sodium Soy Sauce
- 1 tbsp chopped thyme
- 2 tbsp minced garlic
- 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 2 tsp Crushed Red Pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp ground Sea Salt
- 1/2 tsp ground Black Pepper
- 2 pounds fresh chicken wings
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to plastic zip top bag and shake well.
- Place in refrigerator for a minimum of 2 hours to allow chicken to marinade. If you are able, marinade overnight for optimum flavor.
- Once the chicken wings have marinaded, preheat your grill.
- Place chicken wings on fish plate.
- Discard remaining marinade.
- Grill chicken wings over hot grill 20 - 25 minutes.
Notes
If the weather in your area isn't great for grilling, line baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Insert baking rack into pan. Place chicken wings on rack and bake in a 400 degree oven for 30 - 35 minutes turning once. To achieve the crispy texture you would have with a grilled wing, broil for a few minutes with your oven door open! Keep a watchful eye, though broilers have done a number on several of my meals in the past!
What I love about this recipe is how little time it take to prepare the marinade and how quickly the chicken wings cook on the grill. I love using recipes that don’t require me to spend a lot of time away from my family and friends.
Chicken wings are just for football season. They’re a lovely suprise to your summer cookouts.
