Last Tuesday, I had surgery to repair a compressed ulnar nerve. I’m happy to report the surgery was a success, I was given great pain meds, and I’m on the road to recovery. Currently, I am only able to really type with my right arm. That makes capitalizing letters one of the highlights to my day!
To ensure I recover – and won’t have to go under the knife again (this
surgery was my first ever!) – I’ve been laying around, unable to blog, tweet, or facebook. It’s been rather boring. I’m thankful for the Pinterest iPhone app, without it I am sure I would have lost my mind! {Check out what I’ve been pinning here. If you see anything weird, I blame it on the pain meds!}
I used this opportunity to read. You may recall that #80 on my Day Zero Project is to read 24 books. I figured that now was a great time to start working toward that goal.
The first book I chose was The Help – and read it in one day. It was a powerful story of bravery and trust. With each turn of the page, my heart raced, wondering what would happen next. If you haven’t read it, read it. Don’t just go see the movie.
My next selection was The Happiness Project. I nearly gave up just one chapter in. I did not want to waste my time reading about someone cleaning her closets and purging her home of excess while she’s completes a quest for happiness. But I pressed on. And, I learned a few things. I learned that I should slow down and appreciate every moment. As a stay-at-home mom, it is easy to lose sight of what is really important. The laundry and cleaning can wait. Remember: The days are long, but the years are short.
How are you doing with your resolutions and Day Zero Projects?
I’m glad your story went well:) And this is definitely a great time to catch up on some reading. I will have to read The Help, I’m hearing great things.
I haven’t finished the list none the tasks on said list! =0( Epic fail!
Wow, I’m pretty impressed by both your coherence and typing ability. 😀 When I had surgery a few years ago, I was doped up out of my mind. I looked at my Facebook statuses later and they were all New Edition lyrics (I wish I was lying; I’m not) and rants about Lifetime movies and demands for Chapstick. So really, bravo to you! And you’re reading too!
Get well soon!
You need a voice activated blogging tool…haha…I can’t think of what it’s called. 😀
Prayers for quick healing! I should have made some kind of goals this year, but didn’t! I really do need to read the Help. I really prefer most books to the movie versions. Luckily, I haven’t seen the movie yet. Love the sentiment at the end of your post as well. Have a great rest of the week!
Emily! Wishing you a speedy recovery, thanks for the book recommendations.
