I love to take photographs. Photos freeze moments in time and allow you to look back and reminisce. These days, we can take hundreds of photos a day and not think twice about it because, more often than not, we’re using the camera on our cell phones to snap the moments. Something that is always in our hands, pockets, or handbags.
Stop me if you’ve said this before: “The convenience of the cell phone outweighs the weight of lugging my camera around.” I’m guilty of it too. I am trying to break myself of this habit. I don’t like to call myself lazy, but when it comes to using a cell phone camera over a regular camera, I realized that I was lazy. Too lazy to grab an actual camera. Terrible. I know.
As I thought more about my camera use, I recognized there were a few small changes I could make that would ensure I was taking a photos with my camera everyday. I hope these four tips to using your camera everyday will help you too.
Using Your Camera Everyday
1| Charge Your Battery. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve taken my camera to an event with a battery with a low charge, or no charge at all. How dumb do I feel? Very dumb. You can prevent that by keeping a battery charger in your car and a spare battery in your camera bag.
2| Keep an Everyday Lens Attached. If you have a zoom lens attached to the body of your camera, you’re going to have a hard time snapping certain photos. Zoom lens do have their limitations. I find that a 50mm lens is great for everyday use, especially when I use my feet to zoom. Depending on which camera body you use, the cost of an entry level 50mm lens ranges from $90-$150.
3| Use an SD card with Wi-Fi Capabilities. When I first discovered that an SD card could be equipped with Wi-Fi capabilities, I did a happy dance in my living room. I use, and love, the Mobi Wi-Fi card. Through an app, I’m easily able to transfer the photos from my camera to my cell phone or my laptop. Total game changers. Especially for those of you that act like paparazzi when it comes to photographing your kids!
4| Never Put Your Camera Away. You can’t use something if you can’t see it. Keep your camera on the counter, the coffee table, or on your desk. Just don’t keep it in a camera bag. I use a Camera Coat to protect my camera from dust and spills while it sits on my desk. It’s easily accessible and I use it more often.
When did you take your last photograph with a camera? Do you practice any of these tips?

I have always loved taking photos. It’s like Rory Gilmore once said “What can I say I love photographic evidence.” 🙂 These are some great tips you have listed here. One thing though I have yet to figure out is how to keep a pre teen from throwing their hand up in front of my lense and saying “No pictures Mom.” 🙂
