Shopping for a new car is one of my favorite things to do. In fact, I’m always browsing – even the day after we bring home a new vehicle! One thing I missed out on while living in Florida was checking out Volvo West Palm Beach. I don’t know how – my in-laws live there!
When we lived in Florida, we weren’t looking for reliable family vehicles. We had fun sporty cars and weren’t concerned with crash test ratings, resale value, or anything else. Back then, my primary focus was on air conditioning and a great sound system.
Shortly after The Boy was born, we began looking for a new vehicle. I previously had a two door, and popping the infant carrier into the back got old quickly! I desperately wanted a Saab, but The Texan convinced me that Volvo was the way to go. I’m so glad that he did – Saab went out of business and Volvo is going strong. I love our Volvo sedan.
The next vehicle we replace will be our SUV. I want a Suburban, and I’m already browsing for deals. I’d even consider another brand that was similarly sized!
What type of vehicle do you drive now that you’re a parent? Did your vehicle needs change after having a child?

I absolutely hate looking for cars! I’ve only ever really had to do it once in my life – just last fall. My Dad was a car dealer. So when I needed a car, I went to Dad! I had a 2 door sporty car while I was pregnant, so that had to go. Right before my first child, we bought the dreaded mini-van. I hated driving off the lot in that thing and made my husband install the car seat early just so people wouldn’t think I was driving one without a child! I soon came to love that car! So practical, good gas mileage for the size (at least 10+ yrs ago), easy to drive. We ended up replacing it with another one recently. With 3 kids, I needed the third seat. I was disappointed that the mini-van’s MPG has not changed one bit in 10 years! SUV’s have much better MPG now, but we just wouldn’t fit as easily. Have you seen this blog: All about cars, although she is in the UK I believe. I can’t believe the difference in options there for American cars!
