After cupcakes and dinner out to celebrate The Texan’s birthday last Friday, we were excited for Saturday’s warmer weather. That meant a trip to the playground! Woo-hoo! It’s rare that the weather on Cape Cod allows for outdoor play. On our drive to the playground, we passed a train station and the headlight caught my eye. We pulled over just in time to park and hop out as the train went chugging by.
If you read my weekly menu plan posts, you know that we love making homemade pizza. Last week, we piled it with wonderful veggies. Some chicken, too. You know, The Texan can’t eat a meal without some kind of dead animal. Just like a true Texan should.
The Boy tested me on Tuesday. We’ve been having an issue with these pesky Legos. They are everywhere. We had a beautiful storage system for them; yet The Texan and I have been a bit lax about having The Boy put away his Legos consistently. It seems that everything is always being constructed – always a work in progress. I couldn’t look at it any longer. He spent the entire day picking up his Legos. One by way. Sorting. Sorting. Sorting.
Did you notice the trash bag? Yeah, I had to keep my promise and we put the Legos that weren’t sorted and put away by bedtime in the trash bag. I haven’t figured out how we’re going to give those back, or when. But, I will say that a lesson was learned. Since that day, The Boy has been putting them away almost before he is finished playing! Sticking to what you say is important. One day, I’ll tell you about the time my dad too my bedroom door off the hinges.
Currently, I am OBSESSED with grapefruit topped with ginger and cinnamon. Best. Snack. Ever. (Well, besides popcorn.)
I was treated to a haircut and fantastic blow-dry this week. WHY can’t I get my hair to look like this every day?
Everyday is a special occasion. Especially when you have a freezer meal (lasagna) ready to go for dinner and a fresh bottle of wine! Hooray for Wine on Wednesday!
We all have goals that we’re working toward. Whatever your goal may be, focus and keep aiming. You’ll get there.
What are you doing with yours?

You are so beautiful, your hair does look great. Wouldn’t it be so wonderful to have someone to do your hair everyday, like in Downton Abbey? 🙂 Good for you for sticking with what you said about the Lego’s– maybe if he does other extra cleaning jobs he can get some back, or maybe for every week that he keeps his Legos picked up, he can get a handful back, something like that. My oldest has so many Legos too

Thank you so much! You are too kind. I would love to have someone do my hair regularly – now I understand why the {much} older women in my town go weekly to have their hair set!
Sticking to what I said in terms of the Legos was so hard for me! I’m proud that I did it, and think that my son has a great appreciation for his toys now.

I can’t wait to hear the story about your dad taking the door off the hinges! My dad once put a chain and lock on the garage door so I wouldn’t sneak out my car. 😉
Emily says
Oh Sarah – talk about sticking to his guns! One day I was mad about something, so I slammed my bedroom door. My dad came in and said “If you slam it again, I’ll take it off the hinges.” Yep, you guess it. I opened the door – shouted something – then slammed it. About 4 seconds later, my dad opened the door and, using his screwdriver, removed the door. It was a week or more before I got the door back.
To this day, I do not slam doors. And, cannot stand when others do! Lesson learned.
It sounds like our dads would make great friends! That’s funny that he put a lock on the garage door to keep you from leaving! Love it!

Great pics! My kids are just getting started with Legos. I can’t imagine having that many! And I have never had grapefruit like that, so I will be trying that this week 🙂

The funny thing about Legos is that no matter how many you have, there are never enough! My son just started playing with the smaller ones a few months before Christmas. I asked everyone to please get him Legos! One would think that a box of 500 would be enough, but they simply aren’t!
Samantha K says
I totally believe it! For Christmas I got the boys a tub of 400 thinking that would be plenty. WRONG! Especially with two of them playing. They built like one or two things and that was it. I feel like it is going to be a never-ending money pit LOL.

Sometimes it is hard to be a parent because some situations call for tough love and following through with what you say will happen. I can remember when my mom did it with me and I was very good about picking up my things after that. I love your hair and there does seem to be a special art of getting it to look like it did when you come from the stylists. Love the post and sharing your week with you through photos.
Emily says
Thanks for the encouragement, Grace. My son is typically a great kid that listens and follows the rules – this is the first time he was defiant and I actually HAD to follow through. I’m proud that my husband and I stuck to our guns, and we haven’t had a repeat incident – but it was so hard!

Love all the photo’s and your hair looks beautiful! Oh do I know how you feel about those Lego’s I just had to buy a few containers for the boys. I agree with Grace about tough love I know my mom was very tough at times but I am glad she was for it made me a better mom for my kids. Sometimes I can just give them a look and they know exactly what that look means…lol

I absolutely love how the legos are sorted by color! We still have yet to find an organizational system for our legos.
Emily says
Sorting them by color has helped so much! Initially, we had them grouped by Lego Set. I thought it was limiting my son’s creativity – he didn’t want to use the Legos to create things outside of the sets. Once we switched the organization around, he started creating up a storm. It really worked out well for us!

Glad to see the boy is picking up his Legos! Those hurt so bad to step on!
Thanks for the update, I love your hair.
