Transforming a Yard Sale Find
Last fall, our neighbor’s had a yard sale. I purchased this bench. For $5.
It isn’t very pretty, is it?
Well, it sat in my {small} eat-in kitchen all winter. In fact, it came in very handy as a place to store our flip flops. Both The Texan and I have an obscene amount of flip flops.
The beautiful weather this weekend, inspired me to change it up a bit. I had The Texan carry it outside for me. And I The Texan took the top off. Removed the hardware. I primed it using a spray paint primer. Who knew they made such a thing! I forgot to take a picture of that part, so you’re getting another look at it without the seat attached.
I used two and a half cans of spray paint for this project. This was my first time working with spray paint. Ever. I’m so excited about how it turned out! {Look, in the background. There’s The Boy sitting in a chair relaxing!} In this photo, the bench is still wet. But doesn’t it look a zillion times better?
I used a semi-gloss spray paint – our dining table and our plate hutch are both semi-gloss. You can imagine how excited I was to find semi-gloss spray paint. It dried to the touch rather quickly, so The Texan brought it in last night. It sits exactly where it was before, but fits in with our furnishings so much better now!
To the right of the bench is our plate hutch (it’s white), you can’t see our dining table, but it is black. Somehow this ties the two pieces together.
I’m considering adding some vinyl to it, since I have that fancy Cricut machine. But haven’t decided if I want to, or what I’d add to it. Not a bad piece of furniture. The total cost {bench plus paint minus my labor, which was paid in two Margaritas last night} was about $15!
