I have been driving the 2013 Ford Escape for a week, and nearly cried this morning when they picked it up! Test driving this compact SUV was a wonderful experience for me, The Texan and The Boy. As I mentioned previously, we’re currently in the market for a new vehicle and think the Ford Escape might be a nice fit for us as it is so environmentally savvy!
Eco-Friendly and Fuel Efficient
The 2013 Ford Escape has many amazing eco-friendly features. I told you about the recycled bottles used in making the carpeting for all trim levels – it’s great that they don’t charge you more for this feature.
There are two available EcoBoost® engines that are designed to be fuel efficient. Ford’s EcoBoost® technology helps produce a cooler, denser fuel injection charge that generates more power per every drop of fuel. This means fewer trips to the gas station, saving you time and money! Twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) maximizes performance, while two different technologies – turbocharging and direct injection – combine to deliver the performance of a much larger engine with the efficiency of a smaller one. When I put my foot on the gas pedal for the first time, the acceleration was so quick, I thought that I was driving a much larger vehicle. The 1.6L EcoBoost engine delivers 33 highway mpg, the best automatic highway fuel economy in its class.
Another great feature for those of who miss driving a standard shift transmission (like me!), the standard SelectShift transmission of the Escape adds a little fun to your drive. A shiny switch on the gear shifter knob lets you easily and quickly shift gears without having to engage the clutch!
Comfort and Space for your Family
Many compact vehicles are too small for families to comfortably travel around in. This isn’t the case with the Ford Escape. With ample cargo space behind the rear seat, we were easily able to transport our lightweight stroller along with grocery bags.
Our convertible car seat was easy to install using the standard Latch system. The Latch clips stick out and are easy to find! I should also point out, that the Latch system is available only for the outer most rear seats. If you prefer that your child’s safety seat is installed in the center seat, you’ll have to use the standard seat belt. Two car seats would easily fit in the back seat, three would be a tight squeeze unless you were using very compact seats.
