Do you have a curious kitty? Missy, my kitty, is so curious about shopping bags! Whether reusable, paper, or plastic, she wants to know what is in them! I think she enjoys the crinkly sound made from when she touches the bags. That’s why I decided to make her a simple cat toy using the plastic shopping bag as the filler.
felt
embroidery floss and needle
thin leather cord
plastic shopping bag
cat toy mouse pattern
scissors
sewing pencil (optional)
Print the cat toy mouse pattern and use your scissors to cut the pattern out. Attach the pattern to your felt and cut out the design. [alternatively, you may trace around the pattern using the sewing pencil and then cut out the design.]
Using embroidery floss, begin to hand sew the top piece to the bottom beginning with the mouth area of the mouse. Continue sewing until you reach the back of the mouse.
Fold the flaps in and continue to sew the two fabric pieces together.
Cut a few small pieces of the plastic grocery bag and stuff them inside the mouse. Stitch the mouse closed.
To attach the tail and sew the flaps of fabric at the rear of the mouse, insert a small piece of leather cord into the back of the mouse.
Stitch the leather cord to the felt using the same color embroidery floss. Continue to hand sew until your mouse is secure.
Missy seems to prefer the IAMS™ Oral Care Salmon flavor. Which flavor do you think your kitty would like?
