Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and I’m looking forward to spending it with my two favorite guys – The Texan and The Boy. After spending years working in various capacity in the restaurant industry, the last thing I want to do on a holiday is head to a restaurant! On holidays, I do enjoy making a special meal that we wouldn’t typically prepare. This year, it’s going to be Tyson’s batter dipped chicken tenders served with a few fun dipping sauces.
The Boy is not a fan of chicken tenders – or chicken in any form. I really wanted him to give these a shot, so I decided to make a blueberry maple sauce. I combined two tablespoons of my favorite blueberry preserves with one tablespoon of real maple syrup. The sauce was tangy and sweet, without being overbearing. If you’re fortunate enough to can your own preserves, I bet the sauce would be even more amazing! The slightly sweet flavor was appealing to The Boy!
For The Texan and I, I knew we’d need something with a bit more of a kick. I made a Garlic Sriracha dipping sauce. If you’re interested in something spicy, this is the sauce for you. Sriracha sauce is a hot sauce made from a paste of vinegar, chili peppers, garlic, and salt. While it is spicy hot and flavorful on it’s own, the addition of minced garlic enhanced the flavor. In a small bowl, whisk 1/4 cup of your favorite brand of Sriracha sauce with 1/2 tsp of minced garlic.
After we’d eaten and were cleaning up the kitchen, I thought it might be a fun idea to make a Blueberry Sriracha sauce. The sweet and spicy element would be an amazing complement to the chicken tenders. Next Sunday, February 9, there will be a coupon for the Tyson Batter Dipped Chicken Tenders. I’m going to clip the coupon and head back to the freezer section of my local Walmart for another package. We’ll be giving the Blueberry Sriracha sauce a try!
Do you make special dipping sauces to serve with chicken tenders?
Amy says
love the idea of making a dipping sauce from preserves! I usually stick to spicy Sriracha’s like you but I bet this would be a big hit in our house! Some nights are hit or miss with chicken-I usually have more luck with the ones shaped like dinosaurs, which usally ends up with me and the Tiny one playing with our food…but who cares since it ends up in our bellies!

Although I generally have a pack of these in my freezer for when I am too tired to cook I never thought of making a sauce to go with them–I don’t think I could tolerate the spicy one anymore (wish I could)-but I might whip up something with horse radish!
