Remember last year when I made that great USA Map with reclaimed pallets? Every since then, I’ve been itching to create a World Map Wall Art piece on a smaller scale. Last weekend, I finally made it! And I just love how it turned out.
This multi-step process is fun and produces great results. My local lumber supplier had these great boards 11 X 24 for just $1.97, I couldn’t pass them up. I painted the entire board white, this is the color that I wanted my background to be. Then, I pulled out my Silhouette CAMEO and selected the World Map from the Silhouette Online Store. {Shape 17996}. Place your choice of vinyl on your cutting mat and watch the magic happen.
Once the machine finishes cutting, pull your vinyl sheet off of the cutting mat.
Your next step is to “weed” the design. This is the process where you remove the unwanted vinyl from your design. If you want your vinyl last a little bit longer, you can use the reverse design as a stencil as well.
Once you’ve properly weeded the design, you need to apply transfer paper to over your design. Transfer paper helps you to apply the vinyl to your board. I love that the Silhouette brand has a grid on it, that helps lining up your design.
Burnish your transfer paper onto the design to ensure it sticks well.
Now you’re ready to apply the vinyl to your prepped board.
Choose your second paint color and paint the entire board. Go ahead, paint right over your vinyl. It won’t hurt. Let it dry completely. While it’s drying, you could go clean up your mess or make a batch of chocolate chip cookies.
Once it has dried, peel off the vinyl revealing your beautiful world map wall art.
Add a saw tooth hanger to the back and pop up on the wall. Step back and enjoy the beauty.
I just love how this turned out!
