On February 2 when that silly Phil said that we would have six more weeks of winter, I thought to myself “who in the world believes a groundhog’s prediction? Go back to your den!” It was 46 degrees that day, with a “historical average high” of 39. That Thursday was warm.
As I write this today, I am watching big, beautiful snowflakes fall from the sky at a rapid rate. Maybe Phil WAS right? Perhaps winter will come in March this year. Either way, we’re prepared – with snow pants and boots, warm hats and mittens, and fun comfort foods, too!
In the winter months, I love hearty, stick-to-your-ribs type of meals. But those meals take time to prepare, and I don’t enjoy spending all of my nap time in the kitchen. When I saw the Hormel Always Tender Oven Ready meats at the grocery store, I was excited to give them a try.
I prepared the Italian Style Chicken Breasts and served them with delicious garlic smashed potatoes along side roasted asparagus. Is your mouth watering? As I remember the meal, my mouth is watering! You know that I am not a fan of packaged, ready-to-prepare foods, but with The Texan travelling so much this month I have taken some short cuts! The Italian Style Chicken Breasts tasted like I made them myself, we’ll be trying them again!
As I become more familiar with the Hormel product line, I am finding myself more and more impressed. The company offers a variety of products that appeal to every meal, and to many taste buds as well! Y’all know that I love pizza. I typically make {or order…okay, mostly order these days!} buffalo chicken, barbeque chicken, or a simple onion and green pepper. When I discovered Hormel Turkey Pepperoni I new that I had to give it a try. When I was a kid, I loved Pepperoni and Mushroom pizza. I’ve missed it a bit since giving up pork all those years ago. I added the Turkey Pepperoni to a ready-to-bake pizza from the market. It was so flavorful, I had to check the package to make sure that I’d picked up the turkey version and not the pork!
I spent some time this month teaching The Boy about his shadow. As soon as we step out the door, he exclaims “It’s a sunny day! Where is my shadow?” I love the joy in his voice and the excitement he has about seeing his shadow. I wonder, does Phil feel the same way when he sees his?
Did you and your family try any new ingredients or Hormel Food products this month? How did you celebrate Groundhog’s Day?

We love foods by Hormel. Hot dogs are the only “meat” I can get my kids to eat.
