I find that I am more and more concerned with the environment in which I live than I was before I became a mother. The protective instincts in me have come alive! I removed the toxins in my shampoo and conditioner by choosing to use baking soda and vinegar instead. We eat organic when it makes sense, and shop local, too.
One area that I didn’t focus on too much was the products that I was using to clean my home. Look at this photograph taken just a few weeks ago of the products under my kitchen sink.
As I look at the photo, I am in shock – for one, I can’t believe all of the toxic garbage listed as ingredients and for two, I can’t believe that I left this deadly stuff lurking under my sink. Lots of things like ammonia, sodium hydroxide, phosphoric acid, and many others! The Boy could have easily grabbed a bottle or two of this stuff. I’m happy to say, it’s all gone now. {Minus the vinegar, that’s been moved to the bathroom!}
And this is what has moved in:
That’s a huge improvement! Health isn’t just about what you put in your body; it’s about everything around you. Shaklee brings you a full line of natural and nontoxic cleaning choices that are Safe for You, Your Home, and Your Planet® called Get Clean®. The Get Clean® kit is cost saving, saves packing waste from the landfills and the elimination of 248 pounds of greenhouse gas with just One Get Clean® Kit! Passing on one Get Clean® kit to a friend is the equivalent of planting 10 trees!
Included in my Get Clean® kit were reuseable product bottles – with the amount of water H2® Organic Super Cleaning Concentrate to add in order to make Degreaser, Window Cleaner, and an All-Purpose Cleaner. I was so impressed that one product, when mixed properly, could do so much! My windows look better than they have in ages, and I used the Degreaser to clean the vent above my stove – what an improvement! The fact that you can refill the containers was wonderful, too! Less waste, reduces our carbon footprint.
I’ve been using the Shaklee Dishwashing Powder, too. Typically, I gravitate toward liquids for my dishwasher, but the powder cleans better than any liquid I’ve used. It was able to remove the iced tea stains from my favorite insulated cup – something our prior liquid soap wasn’t able to do.
The Texan was impressed with the dryer sheets and laundry soap. For one reason or another, our laundry often comes out of the dryer as one giant static ball. Using one of the Shaklee dryer sheets, along with the recommended amount of Shaklee detergent has virtually eliminated our static cling. All without toxins!
Please take a moment to watch this short video on how amazing the Shaklee product line is:

We have chlorine bleach, ick. I have gotten rid of the rest, but not replaced them with any new cleaners except a green multi purpose. We could use some more specific cleaners.

There is pretty much bleach of a form of acid in all my cleaning supplies. After realizing how hazardous this stuff is, and how my cats get into any and everything I am worried not only about my health but theirs and need a green cleaning makeover!
Amanda Alvarado says
We have ammonia and chlorine bleach. I have been slowly trying to green our products but they are so much more expensive that it’s hard to just go out and buy everything and throw the bad stuff out. I would love to win this because then I could just toss everything!

I’m having a hard time finding out what’s in my cleaning products at all. I’ve looked at several products and can’t find an ingredients list anywhere on them which is kind of scary there. I have a toddler so if my cleaning products could be safer, it would certainly give me piece of mind.

I have phenols, sulfuric acid, sulfuric acid, petroleum distillates, ammonia, chlorine bleach, & phthalates. I need a green makeover because I have two small children and two puppies. I want to know that when they lick stuff normal people wouldn’t lick, that they’re not ingesting chemicals.

Bleach,ammonia and aerosols. I have three kids under 4…two of them are my “helpers” and I don’t want them to breathe in the chemicals and I don’t want the harsh chemicals on their hands.
