Over the last year or so, I have started to get in touch with my creative side. I’ve always wanted to be crafty, but never thought of crafty people as artists. When the opportunity to review My Artist’s Way Toolkit came about, I was both eager and reluctant.
Could I be both crafty and an artist? Hmm…how would that work? I’ve always thought of artists as people who create things that are talked about for generations. People like Ansel Adams, Dave Matthews, and Salvador Dali are artists. I’m just a crafty mom who like to sew, spray paint, and mod podge now and then.
Writing this blog, I tap into more of my creative side. My artistic side, I guess. As I write this post, the gap between “crafty” and “artist” is closing for me. My Artist’s Way Toolkit is an interactive application that encourages you to tap into your creative side. It is working for me!
The toolkit includes daily lessons, affirmations, morning pages, exercises to get your creativity flowing. Julia Cameron is the mastermind behind it, you might remember her from The Artist’s Way. I enjoyed the lessons – they are set up like prompts to inspire you. One of the recent creative affirmations posted:
I do not allow old songs and old ideas to become the only melodies I will listen to. I practice a listening heart. — Julia Cameron, Blessings
Also included with the kit is an app that you can download to your iPhone (or other device) so that you’ll have your kit with you always. I loved that feature. I’m not always tethered to my laptop, and there are times that I am waiting for a meeting to start that I could be working on something. For example, this week’s Artists Dates was “visit a part of your city or town (a safe part) that you are unfamiliar with” – it would be great to have my toolkit accessible while I was doing that so I could upload photos and write down my thoughts.

What a neat idea! I need something to shake me out of the routine. Not sure I’d have time to follow it every day, but once in a while would be fun.
How neat! I’m not artistic at all. I would be embarrassed to even try.
It is very cool! I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler myself! I’m using this as a tool for developing my creative side. Not so much “artsy” but more of the written word. (I hope that makes sense!)
