Oh Nutella. It has to be one of the most sinful foods created. The delicious hazelnut flavor paired with just the right amount of chocolate. Yummy.
Can you taste it yet?
One downfall to Nutella is that it is not low in calories. There are 200 calories in 2 Tablespoons of that creamy deliciousness. Yikes. Makes you want to cry, doesn’t it. Sure you can eat those 200 calories, and burn them off playing badminton for 40 minutes. But let’s face it, I am not going to do that. Are you?
Enter the 15.5 calorie Nutella inspired iced coffee.
This morning, I was brewing a cup of iced coffee and knew that I wanted to add a delicious flavor without all the calories. The last few days I have been craving chocolate like nobody’s business, yet haven’t felt satisfied with anything that I’ve eaten.
I found a bottle of zero-calorie Hazelnut flavored syrup in our cabinet that I’d forgotten about. It was leftover from the Chocolate Hazelnut Martinis I made over the winter. So, I mixed 1 tablespoon of the Hazelnut syrup with 2 tablespoons of unsweetened dark chocolate almond milk. I poured that over the ice cubes in my mason jar, which is the best glass for iced beverages. Your beverage gets cold and stays cold. My Keurig has an iced coffee setting, I made sure to select that option to avoid a mess like yesterday {lesson learned!}, pushed the brew button and waited.
Keurig’s are wonderful for making so many different things. Hot tea. Hot coffee. Iced Tea. Hot chocolate. Oatmeal. Hot water to kick start rice {you are so very welcome for that idea, really cuts down on your stove top cooking time}. And Iced Coffee. One of the best summer drinks around.
Okay. So, once it finished brewing I swirled it around with the straw. You could use a spoon, but I didn’t see the point of getting a spoon dirty when I planned to drink from the straw any way.
And what I tasted?
It was heavenly.
Just. Like. Nutella.
But less calories.
Speaking of calories, I used the Silk brand unsweetened dark chocolate almond milk. It now has 100 calories per cup, or 6.25 calories per tablespoon. Double that for 12.5 calories in this drink, plus roughly 3 calories for the coffee. BAM!
Delicious low calorie Nutella iced coffee for 15.5 calories. Wowzers! You could drink 13 of these bad boys, or eat 2 tablespoons of Nutella.
What would you choose?
This looks and sounds delicious! Thanks for sharing!
I LOVE Nutella, but it is dangerous to have on hand when you’re watching what you eat. 🙂 This looks like a good alternative!
I love it, too! I don’t buy it though – or that delicious Cookie Butter from Trader Joe’s. Oh my! Both are too good for words!
