Now that I have a beautifully designed blog, I have decided I need to brush up on my skill set with regards to blogging. I started this rather “willy nilly”. Dove in head first without knowing what I was doing. So unlike me. I am a research addict. Probably should’ve been a lawyer, but I’m too lazy for that. This week, I’ve devoted nap time to reading other blogs and reading advice on websites that promote blogging, particularly mom bloggers.
What I’ve learned, in no particular order:
- Your blog design should be polished and professional. (Completed!)
- Develop a Media Kit with a calendar to ensure posting frequency is consistent. (Currently working on this.)
- Streamline the topics of posts to ensure brand consistency. (Will be working on in conjunction with Media Kit.)
- Consider a Blog Buddy for encouragement. (Taking “applications” for this unpaid position.)
- Make this recipe. (Completed! The recipe was fantastic. I substituted the English Muffin for a Trader Joe flatbread slim out of necessity.)
- Blog Hop. (Completed first one! More on this later.)
I also found that since becoming a stay-at-home mom, I’m not as organized as I used to be. I’m so focused on having a good time with C, that I have neglected nearly everything else. It is curious to me that we even have food to eat in our house! Thanks to the inspiration I found at I Heart Organizing, I’m getting my life back on track. I purchased colorful file folders and hanging file folders, markers and pens, labels and two portable file folders to get organized. I’m excited to get started on this project and will post about it, I’m sure!
Yesterday, I participated in my first blog hop! Yay, me! It was called Type A Thursday, and it was the first ever Type A Thursday. So, lucky me for choosing to blog hop yesterday! The Type A Thursday (TAT) blog hop was sponsored by Texas Type A Mom and The Type A Housewife! Check them both out if they didn’t send you here in the first place.
What I realized through my participation in the TAT blog hop was that while blog hopping is important, I shouldn’t follow blogs just to get people to follow my blog. Hopping blog to blog to blog yesterday, I followed a few and then went back and “un-followed” a few that I’d only followed because I felt like a creepy peeping Tom. So, when you visit a blog, if the content or style doesn’t appeal to you, then don’t follow the blog. It is that simple. Really.
I hope that if you’re following my blog, you’re following because you want to read what I have to say, not because you just want to be a number.
