Do road trips right with this personalized cooler! You can grab everything you need while getting your vehicle’s oil changed with Pennzoil at Walmart.
There are ninety days until school starts. Ninety. The Boy finished Kindergarten yesterday (how did that happen?!) and now I am tasked with the responsibility of filling twelve weeks of vacation time. I’m a big fan of structure and schedules, but know that it’s nice to do nothing now and again. I signed him up for seven weeks of camp, leaving me with five weeks to fill. I love taking road trips and five weeks gives us a lot of time to go go go. To make the best of your road trip, you need great road trip snacks {like this homemade granola}, a cool cooler to store your beverages in, and a vehicle that you know has been well maintained.
The Texan and I both drive high-mileage vehicles that have been well-maintained, so we aren’t worried about taking long road trips. We trust Pennzoil products to help clean out the sludge left behind as Pennzoil motor oil is designed for complete protection and will allow you to drive an extra of 550 miles per year versus a dirty engine.
While I was waiting for the Walmart Automotive Care Center employees to complete the high-mileage oil change on my vehicle recently, I snapped a photo of the outside because The Texan swears that our Walmart doesn’t have an Automotive Care Center. It’s hidden on the side of the store, behind the Garden Center.
I say, why do it yourself when Pennzoil oil changes are on Rollback at Walmart Automotive Care Centers through September 9?! You can get a High Mileage oil change for $35.88, compared to the regular Walmart price of $39.88 {Industry standard price is $46} or a Platinum Full Synthetic $45.88, compared to the regular Walmart price of $49.88. {Industry standard price $66}.
On our last long road trip to Florida, we packed a cooler with small bottles of water, seltzer, and juice boxes. Hydration is essential when you’re driving! I have to say, our cooler was B-O-R-I-N-G. It was blue and, when we stopped at rest stops and emptied our trash, I couldn’t help but notice that ours looked like all of the others. Well, friends, on this trip, my cooler is going to stand out! And so will yours!
You can purchase a new cooler or spruce up one that you have already. ALL coolers need a little lovin’. While you’re at Walmart, pick up the supplies that you don’t have on hand: a few cans of spray paint {be sure it is suitable for plastic}, some primer {if you want}, sandpaper {if you’re super motivated!}, some painter’s tape, permanent markers, pencils, small paint brushes, acrylic paints in a variety of colors, and a decoupage medium to seal it {glossy or matte finish, whichever you prefer}.
Get started by cleaning the outside of the cooler well using dish detergent. If you want, you may choose to sand the surface of your cooler. I skipped this step because this small cooler is going to ride in the front of the car, as opposed to the back where it might get dinged. If do you sand it, be sure to wash it again to remove any sanding dust.
Remove handles and wheels (if your cooler has them). Then, tape the parts of the cooler that you do not want painted. For this small cooler, I removed the handle and taped the entire lid area. Following the directions on the spray paint can, lightly spray the cooler using short strokes and allowing to dry between coats.
Deciding on a phrase to put on the cooler provided to be the hardest part. Here’s where you can get creative. You can draw the design onto your cooler using a pencil, trace the design from your computer monitor using tracing paper (or a piece of white copy paper) and then transfer the design to your cooler, or you can use a stencil. I love having options, don’t you?
I opted to sketch my design onto a white piece of paper and then use a permanent marker to trace the design onto the cooler.
The purple permanent marker that I used bled through just enough to see my design.
Now comes the fun part! Filling in the design with a paint marker. Paint markers give crisp lines and are easy to use
Let the cooler dry, then seal with the decoupage medium. Don’t worry if it looks a bit funny at this point, it will dry clear. I promise!
Once it dries completely, remove the tape and fill the cooler! Now, you’re ready to hit the road!
When you are packing a cooler for a road trip, what are your must have snacks and drinks?
What a fun idea!! We always make a batch of homemade Cracker Jack to snack on during our road trips. I bet you had the best looking cooler at the rest stop now! Thanks for sharing! #client
